Dean Anderson

M.K. is Coordinator of Field Education within the School of Social Work at King’s University College at Western University. As part of the Field program, M.K. is the creator and director of both the SAFE program and the King’s Community Support Centre (KCSC) which provide valuable community counselling support while ensuring relevant and rich learning opportunities for social work practicums. As a social worker with over 15 years’ experience in London, her areas of focus have included children and families involved in the justice system performing clinical assessment, consultation, family mediation, conflict resolution, counselling support, and overall leadership.

Melissa is the owner of Koselig Counselling Inc, an incorporated private practice therapy agency she started in June 2022. On a part-time basis, she offers one-on-one counselling support to folks aged 20 years old+. Her typical client population includes young working professionals and post-secondary students who want to work on anxiety and perfectionism concerns. The underlying motivation for doing the work that she does is built on the belief that if she can help individuals tap into their strengths and feel confident in who they are, then it can ripple into making things better for themselves and their circle of impact.

Siham Elkassem (she/her), BSW, MSW, PhD(c), RSW is a therapist and lecturer in the department of Social Work at Kings University College in London, Ontario, Canada. Her practice focuses upon on the use of anti-racist and anti-colonial approaches through the lens of intersectionality. Siham’s current research areas of interest are in racialized communities in Canada, anti-Muslim racism, addictions, critical race and anti-colonial studies.

Brenda [BSW & MSW] has been working in the Child Welfare field for 15 years. Although child welfare can be difficult work, it provides a strong foundation in a myriad of counseling issues and modalities and has allowed Brenda the opportunity to assist many children, youth, and families. Much of Brenda’s work has been centered around issues of Decision Making Responsibilities and Parenting time (Formerly custody/access), Intimate Partner Violence, Parenting concerns and Caregiver Education as well as Addiction and Mental Health issues.

Jefferson’s passion for helping others is what led him to the field of addictions and psychotherapy. He is an Internationally Certified Alcohol & Drug Counsellor (ICADC) and registered psychotherapist (RP), educated in Criminology at the University of Ottawa and Addiction Education at McMaster University where he completed an Addiction Studies Certificate and an Addiction Care Worker Diploma. He has been working in the field of addictions and mental health for 13 years. He delivers client-centred and holistic therapy in order to best meet his clients’ needs and address the root causes of their issues.

Brenda Sedgwick

I am Brenda Sedgwick. I hold a Masters in Sociology with extensive experiential training in counselling psychology and human diversity. I am registered to practice psychotherapy in Ontario (CRPO 006115). I am additionally licensed as a certified addictions counsellor, certified telehealth counsellor, and certified Clinical Hypnotherapist. I provide private counselling and through Employee Assistance Programs and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). For organizations interested in growth, I am additionally qualified as a Registered Professional Planner and performing clinical evaluative sciences. Currently, I am studying neuroscience.

Dr. Michael Hryniuk

Michael Hryniuk, PhD, RP is an author, educator, consultant, spiritual director and registered psychotherapist. He received his training as a psycho-spiritual therapist from the Toronto Centre for Pastoral Counselling Education. Michael's practice is grounded in over thirty years of advanced research & teaching in theology, spirituality, pastoral psychology, and the ministry of spiritual direction. He brings a spiritually integrated approach to counselling and therapy that incorporates the cognitive, emotional, somatic and sacred dimension of the human person.

Dean Anderson is an International & Canadian Certified Addiction Counselor CCAC, ICADC from London, ON. He currently wears many hats in the addiction and recovery communities, including being a Private Practice Counselor, MAP Service Provider, Consultant, and NRT Practitioner. His experience includes withdrawal management, residential treatment, peer support, residential trauma, private care, and several volunteering ventures. His dedication to the field is reflected in the multiple committees, programs, and community events, including chairing the Community of Practice for the CACCF.

Rick Csiernik (they/them), BSc, BSW, MSW, PhD, RSW, CCAC is Professor, School of Social Work, King's University College in London, Ontario. Rick has been a social worker for over four decades, having written 10 books, edited nine, including The Essential Guide to Psychoactive Drugs in Canada, Substance Use and Misuse: Everything Matters, and Workplace Wellness. He has contributed to over 250 peer reviewed publications, made nearly as many public presentations and has been part of research teams receiving over $5 million in funding during his career.

Steve is a Registered Social Worker with 22 years of clinical experience in various sectors, including child welfare, custody/access, mental health, addictions, and academia, among others. He is the owner and principal consultant at Phoenix Consulting and Counselling, an OACAS equity facilitator and Supervisor at the Children’s Aid Society of London and Middlesex. He is also a part-time Lecturer at Kings University College. He has worked in the equity field for several years, providing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion training for the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies and other social service sectors, including academia, non-profit organizations and others.

Jackie works primarily as a Clinical Therapist in Hamilton and St. Catharines supporting children, teens, and young adults. She is dedicated to challenging clients to lean into discomfort and equipping them with the necessary skills to create meaningful change in their lives. No two individuals are alike. Her approach to therapy is relational, gentle, and collaborative. She believes in tailoring therapeutic work together to address the challenges that are unique to the individual. Her training and experiences enable her to pull from several different theoretical frameworks to tailor a model that suits the client, their needs and personality.

Jim Watkin

Jim is a graduate of the BSW and MSW Programs at King’s University College at Western University. He has worked as a Social Worker since 1999 working with street identified individuals and Indigenous communities in Ontario with non-profit organizations and a clinical practice. His main areas of expertise reflect Substance use, Harm Reduction, Harm Reduction Psychotherapy, Issues of violence and Trauma Informed care. Jim has lived and worked in Nunavut since 2015 as an instructor in the Social Service Worker Program with Nunavut Arctic College and have worked in clinical Addictions Treatment and Aftercare with the Department of Healthy Living (Cambridge Bay Wellness Center) in Cambridge Bay NU.

Rocco Gizzarelli

Rocco Gizzarelli is a trained social worker with over 32 years’ experience working with children, youth and families to address issues of violence in relationships. One of his specialties is in the area of sexual abuse treatment and assessment of individuals who have committed a sexual offense. Rocco also has extensive experience working with trauma and men who are adult survivors of sexual abuse/assault. Rocco has won accolades for his clinical experience serving the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, Indigenous, Racialized and Immigrant communities.
